Best 2023 Budget Smartphones for Photography

In the realm of mobile technology, the siren call of premium flagship phones is hard to resist. The allure of a Samsung Galaxy or an iPhone, adorned with their cutting-edge camera technologies, can be undeniably captivating. After all, who wouldn’t be tempted to invest a substantial sum in pursuit of the perfect snapshot or the crispest 4K video, ready to seize the delightful antics of pets and children in all their spontaneous glory?

But, before you’re swept away by the allure of flagship devices, consider this: the landscape of budget smartphones has evolved dramatically. The modern mid-range marvels now come equipped with remarkably capable camera systems that can immortalize your everyday moments with surprising finesse. From mundane routines to heartwarming escapades, these mid-range mobiles hold the potential to encapsulate the essence of life in every frame.

Having personally traversed the labyrinth of budget-friendly handsets, I’ve scrutinized, tested, and assessed numerous contenders. Drawing from this wealth of experience, I present to you a curated selection – the finest budget smartphones of 2023 tailored for the art of photography. So, if you’re ready to embark on a journey through affordable innovation that doesn’t compromise on visual excellence, join me in exploring this year’s most commendable options.

Poco X5 Pro:

The highlight of the Poco X5 Pro lies in its Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset, manufactured on a 6nm process. This chipset bridges the gap between mid-range and flagship performance, catering to demanding tasks and heavy gaming.

Thermal management is commendable, ensuring sustained performance without excessive heating. The phone’s 5000mAh battery offers solid endurance, earning an impressive rating of 113 hours in proprietary tests. The included 67W charger replenishes the battery quickly, reaching 82% in just half an hour.

Camera Capabilities: Equipped with the same camera setup as its predecessor, the Poco X5 Pro features a 108MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. Thanks to the upgraded chipset, image processing receives a boost, and the device supports 4K video recording.

In daylight conditions, the main camera captures pleasing shots with accurate colors, ample detail, and impressive dynamic range. However, zoomed-in details can sometimes appear smudged or over-sharpened. Low-light photography benefits from automatic and manual night mode processing, producing well-exposed shots with minimal noise.

Selfies taken with the 16MP front-facing camera offer respectable colors, contrast, and dynamic range. Video recording at 4K 30fps delivers sharp, well-balanced footage, with vibrant colors and effective electronic stabilization.

The Poco X5 Pro emerges as a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone market, powered by a capable chipset and versatile camera system. The OLED display, stereo speakers, commendable battery life, and rapid charging further contribute to its appeal. With its competitive feature set, the Poco X5 Pro earns a recommendation for those seeking a powerful mid-range device.

Samsung Galaxy A54 5G:

Let’s take a look at Samsung. While last year’s Galaxy A53 smartphone was a letdown, the fresh new Galaxy A54 makes amends with the redesigned Exynos 1380 chipset. It can handle sweaty gaming action with no worries. The One UI experience is smooth and looks stunning on the AMOLED display. Battery life is good enough for over 6 hours of screen-on time per charge. The Samsung Galaxy A54 supports 25-watt fast charging, but there’s no adapter included.

The camera setup includes an all-new 50-megapixel sensor for improved low-light photography and optical image stabilization. However, the shutter speed wasn’t particularly swift on my tester, resulting in blurry snaps of moving subjects. When timed right, portrait snaps look great, and you can adjust the background blur after taking the shot. Colors are well-captured, even in less than ideal lighting, and the A54 handles high contrast situations without oversaturation.

The A54 also has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter, basic but not bad. There’s a 5-megapixel macro shooter for extreme close-ups. Samsung’s camera app offers various modes, including food mode and fun mode. The phone is reliable for shooting movies as well, capturing 4K footage with clear audio pickup and decent stabilization.

The 32-megapixel selfie shooter does well in various lighting conditions, with a screen flash feature for low light. Video using the front-facing camera maxes out at 4K resolution, which is still rare for a mid-range phone. Go Next for more…
