And because I haven’t had the chance to experience every smartphone released in 2023—simply because it’s not something that I can claim to be practically possible—this list of the best flagship phones of 2024 is based on the devices that I have had a chance to experience personally. So, let’s get into it.
1. iPhone 15 Pro Max:
It comes as no surprise that the iPhone 15 Pro Max takes the lead on this list. This device, in my opinion, epitomizes excellence, encompassing a range of features that make it a standout in the smartphone landscape.
At the forefront of its impressive attributes is the remarkable display that graces the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s nothing short of amazing, providing a visual feast that captivates with vivid colors and sharp details. The build quality is equally commendable, with a design that exudes a premium feel.
The standout feature, without a doubt, is the set of cameras on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, especially when it comes to video recording. I confidently assert that it possesses the best video capabilities among all smartphones. The introduction of a five times zoom enhances its versatility, particularly in capturing stunning portraits.
Under the hood, the iPhone 15 Pro Max houses the groundbreaking A17 Pro chip, marking the industry’s first three-nanometer chipset on a smartphone. This not only translates into powerful performance but also enables the playing of console-level games right on the iPhone, elevating the gaming experience for enthusiasts.
A long-awaited and much-appreciated inclusion is the adoption of USB Type-C. While not a groundbreaking innovation, its arrival addresses a longstanding convenience issue, eliminating the need to juggle multiple cables.

It’s only fair to acknowledge that, like any device, the iPhone 15 Pro Max had its teething issues, notably some reported cases of overheating. However, a timely software update appears to have mitigated these concerns, and my personal experience has not been marred significantly.
The introduction of a new action button and dynamic island, while innovative, doesn’t resonate as strongly in practical usage. The action button’s placement makes it less accessible, and the dynamic island, despite its potential for animations and information, occupies the topmost element of the screen, limiting its day-to-day utility.
Offering an honorable mention is the iPhone 15 Pro, a device strikingly similar to its Max counterpart, albeit lacking the 5 XL photo camera. The iPhone 15, along with the iPhone 15 Plus, however, doesn’t find a place on my list this year. While undeniably good smartphones, they fail to distinguish themselves, feeling more like refined iterations of the iPhone 14 Pros.
The shared A16 bionic chip, a 60Hz display (not a ProMotion display), absence of a telephoto camera, and a build that doesn’t match the premium feel of the Pro models contribute to their omission from the coveted top spots.
In essence, the iPhone 15 Pro Max stands tall as a testament to Apple’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the smartphone realm. It encapsulates a seamless blend of cutting-edge technology, stellar design, and powerful performance, making it my top pick for the year.
