Google’s highly-anticipated Pixel event concluded today with the official announcement of the Pixel Watch 2 alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. While some details had surfaced prior to the event, Google saved the most intriguing aspects for the live presentation, which prominently featured advancements in artificial intelligence.

Pixel Watch 2: Elevating Health and Fitness Monitoring

The Pixel Watch 2 retains its iconic circular design, now 10% lighter than its predecessor, with enhanced durability in the form of more robust glass. Featuring a new System on Chip (SoC) with a quad-core CPU, it boasts an impressive 24-hour battery life, surpassing the Apple Watch Series 9 by six hours.

Noteworthy health upgrades include a more accurate heart rate sensor, a skin temperature sensor, and a continuous electrodermal activity sensor for stress detection. Combined with Google’s machine learning algorithms, these additions promise more precise health insights. The integration of Fitbit into Wear OS 4 introduces new fitness tools, including Heart Rate Zone Coaching and Pace Training features.

Wear OS 4 Enhancements for Pixel Watch 2

Wear OS 4 brings significant improvements to the Pixel Watch 2. Six new watch face families have been introduced, accompanied by new Gmail and Calendar applications. Existing apps have also seen upgrades, with YouTube Music now supporting podcasts, and Google Maps providing quick access to nearby place information. Notifications have been refined to display preview images and GIFs, facilitating seamless actions such as initiating phone calls.

The Pixel Watch 2 is available for pre-order starting today, with shipments commencing on October 12. The Wi-Fi model is priced at $349, while the LTE model is priced at $399. Additionally, purchasers receive 6 months of Fitbit Premium and 1 month of YouTube Music Premium.
