ITALIAN STYLE HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE

Italian style hot chocolate. I grew up drinking both styles of hot chocolate, American style, and Italian style hot chocolate. And to be honest with you, both of them are so delicious but very different from each other.

INGREDIENTS

  • Serves 2-3 small cups:
  • 1 1/2 cups Milk (375 gr)
  • 2 tbsps. Cocoa Powder
  • 3.5 ounces Dark Chocolate (100 gr)
  • 1 tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 2 1/2 tbsps. Sugar (30 gr)
  • Pinch of Salt

HOW TO MAKE THE ITALIAN STYLE HOT CHOCOLATE:

1 ) Into a saucepan over low heat, add some milk and reserve 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk for cocoa powder mixture.

2 ) Into another bowl, mix cocoa powder and cornstarch and make it slurry by adding the remaining milk and mix until you get a smooth paste (this will just prevent lumps in your hot chocolate).

3 ) Cornstarch makes the Italian hot chocolate style much thicker and creamier, and the sugar quantity is variable. If you want a sweet hot chocolate, you can add more sugar.

4 ) Give everything a good stir and this mixture, and let it come to a gentle simmer. Because, if it doesn’t come to a simmer, the cornstarch will not activate. So keep an eye on it and as soon as it starts to thicken up, turn off your stove and stir in the dark chocolate (The heat of the milk mixture will melt the chocolate so continue stirring and you’ll get the most beautiful smooth hot chocolate).

5 ) Serve hot and Enjoy!
