OPPO X8S and X8 Plus Debut With Dimensity 9400+: Lighter, Smarter, and Surprisingly Powerful

OPPO X8S and X8 Ultra side-by-side showing slim design and new colors

Last night, OPPO officially launched the first batch of smartphones powered by the cutting-edge Dimensity 9400 Plus processor—and the spotlight immediately turned to the ultra-thin X8S and the powerhouse X8 Plus.

While the X8 Plus is making waves for its performance and flagship-level specs, it’s the sleeker, thinner X8S series that’s quietly stealing the show—and for good reason.

We went hands-on with both devices, and here’s everything you need to know.

X8S: Ultra-Lightweight With Surprising Battery Gains

At first glance, the OPPO X8S stands out for its refined aesthetics. Available in white, pink, and blue, the X8S is nearly identical in color options to the standard X8—but there’s a twist. The white variant now features a bold black camera deco that contrasts with the rest of the lineup. While it might feel slightly out of place, the silver deco from the X8 could still be the more elegant option.

That said, the biggest improvement isn’t about color—it’s about weight and comfort. The X8S is now slimmer by 0.5mm and has dropped even more grams, putting it in the size league of the iPhone 15 Pro. But unlike Apple’s flagship, the X8S manages to pack a larger battery into its leaner body. Yes, lighter phone, bigger battery—a rare win.

If you’re considering something with a bit more stamina, the X8S Plus might be your pick. It houses a massive 6000mAh battery yet still weighs under 200g, and the new gradient purple version is a true head-turner in different lighting.

A Display That’s All Bezel-Less Elegance

Both phones flaunt ultra-narrow bezels with symmetrical edges on all four sides—rare to see outside premium flagships. Hold it next to an iPhone 15 Pro and you’ll notice how much sleeker the OPPO feels. Among all models in this series, the X8S has the thinnest bezels, making it the most immersive to look at and hold.

Plus, the Deco’s thickness is minimalist and understated—a choice that aligns well with OPPO’s design direction. If you’re looking for a small phone that doesn’t compromise, the X8S feels almost tailor-made.

AI Button, Smart Tweaks, and That Familiar iPhone Feel

One subtle but smart change? OPPO now lets users remap the AI button—similar to Apple’s Action Button. That means you can set it as a shortcut for other features, which is a great touch, especially for users outside China. The positioning and functionality are nearly identical to iPhone’s—and even the promo posters give a déjà vu vibe.

Display and Cameras: Subtle Refinements

Though the resolution has been slightly scaled down, the X8S still holds a crisp PPI close to 460, with a bright, vivid panel that doesn’t disappoint. Color gamut and brightness remain flagship-worthy.

Camera-wise, the X8S doesn’t cut corners. It brings a 50MP main + 50MP ultra-wide setup, just like the X8, and adds a new periscope telephoto lens with OIS and 85mm focal length. Meanwhile, the X8S Plus enhances this with a more sensitive sensor, though it does trade off with a slightly shorter zoom range. Sadly, macro photography is missing from both models’ telephoto lenses.

Performance and Global Support: Some Trade-Offs

Performance is solid with the new Dimensity 9400 Plus, although real-world differences are mostly felt in benchmarks, not daily use. The USB-C port remains USB 2.0, and OPPO still relies on its proprietary fast-charging protocol. You’ll get 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, but only with OPPO’s own charger.

Another trade-off? Global support. The X8S is currently a China-only release, and while it works well in Europe (Germany, France, the UK), U.S. users should be cautious. It supports only one-third of U.S. 5G bands, and some users might not even get a stable 2G signal.

Originals, audiobooks and podcasts—all in one place.

Should You Buy It?

If you’re looking for the ultimate lightweight phone with strong battery life, a sleek design, and capable cameras, the OPPO X8S series is a compelling choice. Sure, the Xiaomi 15 may offer better global connectivity and USB upgrades, and the upcoming OnePlus 13T could shake things up—but right now, the X8S checks all the boxes for comfort and performance.

And here’s the kicker: Giztops is offering a $40 discount for a limited time. So if you’re planning to get your hands on one, now’s the time.
