Xiaomi 13 Ultra Review: Unveiling the Epitome of Technological Excellence

Day-Light Capturing Quality

By default, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s main camera uses the Leica vibrant color mode, which produces wonderful photos with expressive colors. The colors are not overly saturated but rather convey a natural and vivid appearance. The camera excels in capturing a wide dynamic range, preserving detail in both highlights and shadows. The resulting images exhibit an impressive level of detail, providing a realistic and visually pleasing look.

Alternatively, if you enable the Leica authentic color mode, you’ll experience a moodier aesthetic with less color pop and darker shadows. This mode creates a different atmosphere and adds a distinct character to your photos. Additionally, there seems to be a consistent vignetting effect present, further enhancing the overall mood and artistic quality of the images.

Regarding aperture choices, the main camera of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra offers two options: the default F/1.9 and a stop-down at F/4.0. The aperture selection allows for control over the depth of field in your photos. At F/1.9, you’ll achieve a more shallow depth of field, resulting in a stronger bokeh effect where the background appears more defocused, while the subject remains in focus.

On the other hand, switching to F/4.0 increases the depth of field, ensuring a larger area of the subject in focus. The bokeh effect is less pronounced in this mode. Additionally, stopping down the lens to F/4.0 may result in a slightly sharper rendition of the in-focus subject, although we did not observe a noticeable improvement in sharpness during our testing.

If the natural bokeh effect isn’t sufficient for your creative preferences, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra provides a range of additional options to customize the bokeh effect according to your liking.

With its versatile color modes, adjustable aperture choices, and various bokeh options, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s main camera offers a plethora of creative possibilities, allowing users to capture stunning photos with unique aesthetics and depth of field effects.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra excels in portrait mode, offering solid results with proficient subject separation and pleasing background blur. By default, portraits are captured using the 3.2 times telephoto camera, and they deliver impressive image quality with a comfortable shooting distance.

The portraits exhibit good sharpness and well-captured fine details. The colors and contrast align well with the main camera’s output. However, there may be a slight presence of visible noise in comparison.

Moving on to the 3.2 times zoom camera, normal photos taken with this lens showcase excellence with great sharpness and finely captured details. The colors and contrast remain on par with the main camera, ensuring consistency throughout the different lenses. However, there might be a slight presence of visible noise similar to the 3.2 times telephoto camera.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra continues its great performance even with its longer telephoto lens at five times zoom. Images captured at this zoom level exhibit excellent colors that align with the other cameras, top-notch sharpness, and great micro contrast, resulting in well-defined detail. Similar to the previous zoom level, the noise situation remains the same.

The ultra-wide camera on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra provides a wider perspective compared to most other smartphones. It maintains consistent color rendition and excellent dynamic range. Images captured with the ultra-wide lens exhibit sharpness across the frame, and overall detail is solid, although there might be a slight increase in grittiness.

Overall, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra delivers impressive performance and image quality across its range of lenses. Whether it’s capturing portraits with pleasing background blur, utilizing the zoom capabilities for excellent colors and sharpness, or utilizing the ultra-wide lens for wider perspectives, this device consistently delivers in terms of dynamic range, sharpness, and capturing fine details.
