Xiaomi Unveils Groundbreaking Battery Innovations in the New MIX Fold 3

In a highly anticipated announcement, Lei Jun, the visionary founder of Xiaomi, revealed a slew of revolutionary technological advancements packed into the latest Xiaomi MIX Fold 3. A centerpiece of this unveiling was the remarkable strides made in battery technology, marking a giant leap forward in the realm of battery life, management, and efficiency.

Mr. Lei Jun enthused, “This time, Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 has brought a whole set of groundbreaking technological innovations in terms of battery life, from battery technology, battery management chip, to screen technology and many other technologies.”

Foremost among these innovations is the introduction of a brand new Xiaomi Surging Battery, featuring not just one, but two pieces. What sets these batteries apart is the incorporation of a new generation silicon carbon anode technology. In comparison to traditional silicon-oxygen technology, the silicon-carbon anode enables higher energy density, resulting in a substantial improvement in battery performance. The finesse of this engineering is reflected in the ultra-thin profile of these batteries, with one of them being a mere 2.45mm thick. This remarkable feat contributes to the phone’s extraordinary blend of slimness and long-lasting battery life.

But battery innovation is not just about “open source”; it’s also about “throttling.” Xiaomi’s engineering team employed silicon carbon anode technology to boost battery capacity by a staggering 10%, coupled with the meticulous management by the Xiaomi Pengpai battery management system, effectively minimizing power consumption.

Driving the battery management system are three Xiaomi Surging G1 chips, collectively forming the “Xiaomi Surging Battery Management System.” This integrated system meticulously monitors battery discharge data, leveraging a parallel design to optimize energy loss. This system-level discharge control algorithm harmonizes with the unique characteristics of silicon-carbon anode batteries, leading to an extended battery life experience. These chips work tirelessly to supervise battery health around the clock, promising a prolonged battery life.

Mr. Lei Jun further elucidated, “For folding screens to achieve breakthrough endurance performance, battery technology alone is not enough.” Acknowledging this, Xiaomi took a holistic approach, addressing screen power consumption as well. The 8.03-inch large screen of the Mi MIX Fold 3 boasts an impressive enhancement in low power consumption. This achievement is attributed to a combination of cutting-edge technologies including Pol-less Plus low-power display technology, E6 luminous material, LTPO multi-stop dynamic refresh rate, and partition independent refresh. These innovations, combined with new screen IC process optimization, have led to a significant reduction in power consumption while maintaining the screen’s dazzling 2K high-brightness and high-refresh capabilities.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of these enhancements, Xiaomi put the Mi MIX Fold 3 to the test, showcasing a 52% increase in battery life for the internal screen as compared to the previous generation, through continuous display of a 500nit white image.

The culmination of these innovations has given rise to an unparalleled battery life for the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3. The external screen DOU model boasts an astounding battery life of up to 1.34 days, while the internal 8.03-inch screen matches this longevity. This remarkable endurance, achieved without compromising on the device’s sleek and lightweight design, ushers in a new era of folding screen innovation.

“In the 5-hour heavy battery life test commonly used in the industry, the thin and light folding flagship Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 topped the list with absolute strength, becoming the folding screen with the longest battery life,” Lei Jun proudly proclaimed.

Xiaomi’s relentless pursuit of excellence and groundbreaking innovations in battery technology and screen optimization underscore the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in mobile devices, as evident in the remarkable Xiaomi MIX Fold 3.
